Welcome to Slow Food Piedmont's Snail of Approval Progam!

Slow Food is good , clean and fair food. We believe that the food we eat should taste good; that it should be produced in a clean way that does not harm the environment, animal welfare or our health; and that food producers should receive fair compensation for their work.

The Snail of Approval is an emblem of Slow Food Piedmont, which is awarded to food producers, markets and food stores, restaurants, and other food service establishments in recognition of their contributions to the quality , authenticity and sustainability of the Triad's food supply.

The first Snail of Approval Awards were presented on Sept. 27, 2009 at the Board Meeting at Stauber Farm

Here's how the program works:

  • Any local food producer can be nominated by anybody to receive the Snail of Approval certificate.
  • Local food producers can also nominated themselves.
  • Nominees will be evaluated and voted on by SFPT's Board, according to Slow Food philosophy criteria (see below).
  • The recipients will be notified of their recognition by The Board and awarded a Snail of Approval Certificate
  • A door decal listing "valid date" will also be provided and required for display at recipient's business.

At least 5 of the 7 criterion for “slow food” must be met for your application to be considered.

  • Fresh, local and sustainable food
  • Food that is good for the body
  • Food that supports the local community
  • Food that is good for the environment
  • Food that promotes inter-person relationships
  • Food that is sustainable for the future

If you would like to nominate a farm or food business to be considered for our Snail of Approval, please fill in the Nomination Form and email it as an attachment to Margaret Norfleet Neff, Slow Food Piedmont Chapter Leader, at mnneff@gmail.com. It will be reviewed by the Slow Food Piedmont board.

To apply, please send us an email!

ATTENTION! We may have missed your nomination due to the online form not working the way we expected. We apologize. Please submit it again! Thank you!
