The first Snail of Approval Awards were presented on Sept. 27, 2009 at the Board Meeting at Stauber Farm
Here's how the program works:
- Any local food producer can be nominated by anybody to receive the Snail of Approval certificate.
- Local food producers can also nominated themselves.
- Nominees will be evaluated and voted on by SFPT's Board, according to Slow Food philosophy criteria (see below).
- The recipients will be notified of their recognition by The Board and awarded a Snail of Approval Certificate
- A door decal listing "valid date" will also be provided and required for display at recipient's business.
At least 5 of the 7 criterion for “slow food” must be met for your application to be considered.
- Fresh, local and sustainable food
- Food that is good for the body
- Food that supports the local community
- Food that is good for the environment
- Food that promotes inter-person relationships
- Food that is sustainable for the future
If you would like to nominate a farm or food business to be considered for our Snail of Approval, please fill in the Nomination Form and email it as an attachment to Margaret Norfleet Neff, Slow Food Piedmont Chapter Leader, at mnneff@gmail.com. It will be reviewed by the Slow Food Piedmont board.
